Living in Phnom Penh have a lot of House.
Housing
House/apartment rental prices range from $100 - $3000/month but average between $200
and $800/month, plus utilities. To find a place of your own, spread the word, tell your Cambodian friends and acquaintances and they will bring you lots of options. Also check
out the classified ads in the Cambodia Daily, and, if you have the time, just drive around desirable neighborhoods looking for 'For Rent' signs. Realty companies list rentals and
can be quite helpful in meeting your exact requirements and interacting with the landlord, but these rentals tend to be comparatively more expensive.
Housing in the Boeng Keng Kang 1 (BKK1) area and the riverfront area are quite popular with foreign residents, but tend to be more expensive than other parts of town. When
deciding where to live also consider that parts of the city are more prone to rainy season flooding and an unreliable electricity supply. Most rental contracts require a security
deposit of at least one month, to be applied against the final month(s) of the contract.
Those staying in Phnom Penh short term or on a tight budget may consider arranging a
monthly rate with a hotel or guesthouse. Several hotels in the Boeung Keng Kang 1 area cater to NGO/IO workers on medium-term stay, offering reasonably priced, serviced rooms.

Furniture
Boutique shops such as Le Lezard Bleu, I Ching Décor and Bazar art de vivre offer high quality and custom made furniture. For something a bit more off-the-rack, there are
half-dozen furniture stores on the east side of Monivong between Sihanouk and Mao Tse Toung selling quality imported home furniture. For something more local, there is also a
cluster of shops along Monivong south of Mao Tse Toung near Street 466 specializing in moderately priced locally made wood furniture. The least expensive furniture option are
the wicker and light wood furniture shops can be found at dozens of little shops that line the curve of Sothearos near the intersection of Norodom Blvd.

Telephone/Fax
Cambodia Country Calling Code : 855 Phnom Penh Area Code : 023
Most hotels and the post office have international phone/fax. Overseas calls run $1.60-$3.00/minute. Most internet shops offer Skype/internet phone service for as little as
400R/minute. See page 57 for more on internet.
How to telephone to/from Cambodia
Cambodian telephone numbers are usually listed beginning with a '0' (for example:
023-000000.) The first three numbers (063, 023, 012, 016, 092, etc.) represent the provincial area code or the mobile phone system.
When dialing domestically, it is necessary to dial the entire number including the '0' at the beginning. (for example: 023-000000) When dialing internationally to Cambodia, use the
country code but exclude the '0' (for example: +855-23-000000). When dialing an international call from Cambodia, precede the phone number with '007' or '001' (for
example: 007-662-251-0000).
Purchasing a phone number/SIM card In Cambodia, cell phones are more commonly used than fixed phones. Fixed phone lines
have the area code prefix 023 in Phnom Penh (there is a different area code prefix for each province in Cambodia.) Cell phones use SIM cards. You can purchase a SIM card with
telephone number at one of the many phone shops scattered across town. You will need a valid passport and visa.
